It's Spritz Season

Or so it should be… Below are our favourite sun-downer spritzes for that rare moment in the evening when she makes an appearance!! There is something so sophisticated about the spritz its hard to believe how simple they are to throw together. We’ve thrown together our tips & tricks to achieve the perfect Spritz.

Hack Number 1

Glass size. Bigger is not always better. (Hard to believe I know, stick with me!!) Don’t opt for an oversized glass - by doing this you are more likely to get the ratios wrong, over dilute the drink with too much of the mixer - and end up with a watery and over diluted drink. A smaller glass always works better - your ratios will be easier to work with, your drink will end up staying colder for longer, it will be more refreshing and because its stayed cold for longer it will become less diluted…. See I told you to trust me!!

Hack Number 2

Ice Ice Baby - please for the sake of the Spritz fill up your glass with ice!! And I mean fill!! There is a very real common misconception amongst us, whereby we believe having less ice in our drink will mean it becomes less diluted... However I am here to let you in on a little trade secret!! If you apply the basic principles of Science you will realise that actually more Ice will keep the drink colder for longer, meaning the ice won’t melt and therefore it doesn’t become diluted! Less Ice means the drink will warm up quicker and melt almost instantly.

Hack Number 3

Ratios - For a classic spritz recipe you just need to remember your ABCS, or is it 123!! Spritz usually contain 3 elements which are the Sparkling Wine, Soda & Base Spirit or Liquer which is usually a bittersweet ingredients such as Aperol, Campari or Limoncello. Following the basic 123 Principle your spritz will always contain 3 Parts Spakrling Wine, 2 Parts Base Spirit or Liquer & 1 Part Soda.

This ones on me…

The truly remarkable thing about the Spritz category & why it is my favourite, is the endless variations you can create. As long as you follow the basic principles you will always be onto a winner… Feel like swopping out Soda for a Flavoured Soda, go ahead the Spritz won’t mind. Swop out the Prosecco for a Cremant or Cava. Even the star of the show (Base Spirit or Liquer) can take a curtain call if you wish to add other sweeter or fruitier elements. While the ingredients may change the method doesn't. The only real limitation here is the size of your cabinet! See what we mean below with a couple of our favourites.
