A glass half full is always the typeof person you will want to work on your event. These types of people will have a positive attitude towards their role and can elevate your event into something truly memorable. They are the go-getters givers, and the problems solvers always looking for ways to delight their guests. They will be smiling throughout and creating good vibes for colleagues and guests to feed off.
What to look for? Graceful gestures and body language. Inclusive smiles and eye contact, assisting others without being asked. Genuinely helpful.
Event bartenders will be great communicators. Each and every event is different, they will be working with individuals they may never have worked with, often they will receive a brief just a few hours prior to each event. It is therefore absolutely essential that your teams are great communicators. An effective communicator will relay information in an engaging, clear & empowering way to help drive the team and the event forward with the finesse that is required.
It is also essential that they know how to communicate with guests in a professional and polite manor, especially when under pressure. Maybe the service is busier than expected, or a guest is behaving inappropriately – it is during these times where having this skillset will really set apart the team and make a key difference within your event.
What to look for? Perfect Language, right tone of voice & volume, careful choice of words and phrases. Body Language is open yet assertive.
When an event is live it should feel like a beautifully choreographed ballet. Each member of the team from drink host to bartender, host to bar back plays a vital and key role in that evening's performance. When everything is moving in the right direction it should be truly magical. The way in which this is delivered is by something we refer to as the Swan Theory – at the surface everything looks just so & effortless. Beneath the surface there is much more going on, the pressure or stress must never show. Your team should always present themselves as calm, collected and ordered; gliding around the room.
A professional hospitality worker can predict a guest's habits or movements almost before they can. Being observant and efficient in their approach should mean a guests' every need has already been taken care of, or at-least considered before the guest has to ask. We call this mindful engagement – actively observed and listening to predict the outcome of any situation. In isolation these acts may not be noticed by the guest, but throughout the evening when carried out in succession these will be the most memorable points of the evening.
What does this look like? Topping up water, pre-preparing another round, pulling a chair from the table before the guest seats.
